A liver transplant

what her husband needs

but impossible

without insurance

 

Yet they voted for

a man who promised

to repeal the

possibility

 

Why, they questioned her,

did you enable

him into office

to end your coverage?

 

We heard him say that,

we thought how depraved

it would be, but we

didn’t believe him.

 

What then did you think

was so good about

the orange ass-flame

that garnered your vote?

 

He promised to wreck

the system, to shake things

up, to drain the swamp,

to build a great wall.

 

And these promises

motivated you?

They did, because why would

he lie to us? Why?

    Liberal thinkers tout ‘tolerance’ yet are the first to be intolerant of anyone who will not validate the concepts they attempt to force everyone else to follow. I recall hearing the hype about how we must all “come together and compromise” during the campaign cycle over the last year. As soon as they lost the election, all hell broke loose. There was no demonstration of compromise or tolerance.
    My sensitivity to the liberal thinkers is a mere reflection of the concern they failed to offer when the ACA left many of us without a pot to P in. If the last eight years had not been so financially horrible for me, I might feel differently. My sensitivity to the misguided political correctness of the baby-killing Democrats has come to an end. I look forward to a lowered federal tax rate after businesses have their tax rates lowered; and stricter abortion laws, fewer illegal aliens, and with that, I hope lower personal property taxes. My property tax funds the public schooling for the anchor children. This infuriates me! I live in a sanctuary county and I intend to start becoming an annoyance to the Board of Supervisors.

    Dear Carol,
    At first, I thought of trashing your response to my poem. Then, I thought it might be better to allow it to be posted, so I could reply. I will try to be as polite as I can be.

    The underlying assumption of your response is that it would be better for 16 million people who now have health insurance under the Affordable Care Act to lose that insurance because some insurance company has raised the rate that you pay. Of course, you’re entitled to feel however you want to feel. It’s purely your choice as to how compassionate you want to be for those less fortunate. But it really seems that you’re saying “tough luck for the poor!” Forget the Biblical commandment to “love thy neighbor as thyself.” That’s only those neighbors who are your equals, not for those too poor to buy their own insurance before the Affordable Care Act, right? Those people are not really your neighbors, are they?

    I would also like to point out that Roe v. Wade, which correctly rejected the argument that life begins at conception, was not a Democratic, liberal decision. Of the 7-2 majority ruling, five of the seven who supported the decision were Republican appointees, including Justice Harry Blackmun – a staunch Republican – who wrote the plurality opinion. And you really think that Republican women have never had abortions? I’ve read that 31% of Republicans support freedom of choice. So, when you implicitly call me a “Democratic baby killer,” you’re not only being crude and rude, you’re displaying an unfortunate loss of touch with the truth.

    Finally, I have to point out that your rant against so-called “anchor babies” ignores the fact that everyone in this country, you too, is descended from immigrants. Even Native Americans – whose land the white settlers stole – came here from elsewhere in search of better lives. You’re a descendant of “anchor babies.” Like it or not, the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution makes a citizen anyone who was born here. It was part of our nation’s way of ending black slavery. Perhaps you were not aware that the United States of America – the victors – fought the Civil War largely to end slavery. If you want to do away now with the Fourteenth Amendment, I have to wonder whether you also want to do away with other protections against slavery such as the Thirteenth and Fifteenth Amendments.
