Dear Mr. Trump.
I SPECIFICALLY REQUEST A RESPONSE FROM YOU TO THIS LETTER.
There. I added that because I’ve heard that, if a response is specifically requested, I might get a response. Yet, I doubt that you will respond. You’re a busy man, way too busy to talk to a writer being who feels you are a disgrace to the presidency.
Yes, that’s strong language, strong but deserved. Sir.
First, anyone concerned about his country and its future would be doing everything in his or her power now to protect our democracy from the Russians. It’s clear that you’re doing nothing and thus undermining our country’s future as a democracy. You’ve sold out. Future generations will look back with great sadness at your deliberate interference with efforts to stop the Russians and know that you destroyed the American dream, that you were a traitor to the values we cherish.
Second, a decent man in the White House is not one who foments hatred among the people he serves, does not praise American Nazis and the Klan, urging us to believe that “there are some very fine people” in those despicable groups, does not disparage an entire religion, does not disparage transgendered people and try to drum them out of the military.
Third, a respectable man in the presidency is not one who tells us not to be afraid of the NRA and, the next day, cow-tows to the NRA and frustrates every effort to achieve reasonable gun controls. A respectable man is not one who must read from a cue card to express sympathy to families that have lost their children to assault rifles. A respectable man is not one who tells us that he’ll sign any bill to protect the Dreamers and, the next day, reverses himself because the extreme haters in his party tell him to, nor a man who orders ICE agents to permanently take a seven-year-old girl away from her asylum-seeking mother.
My request to hear from you, Sir, will go unheeded, because what could you possibly say that anyone would believe?
Very truly yours,
Bruce J. Berger
